III-V based solar cells and CPV technology
publication date: Dec 22, 2009
The main challenge for grid connected photovoltaics (PV) today is cost reduction. Several technological paths are possible to achieve this goal. One of these paths is the high concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) technology. This technology uses a concentrating optic to focus the sunlight on a small solar cell receiver. In this way, the costly solar cell area is highly reduced by the expense of introducing optical elements and tracking the modules to the sun.
