As one of the technological leaders in multi-megawatt wind power systems, Nordex is benefiting from the trend in favour of large-scale turbines. The Nordex range comprises one of the world’s largest series-produced wind power systems (N80/N90/N100 each 2.5 MW). To date, over 1,000 turbines of this type have been produced.

GE Wind Energy GmbH was set up in May 2002 and now employs over 2,000 people across Germany, Spain, China and the USA. The company provides a wide scope of products and services which includes 1.5 – 2.5 wind turbines, project development, servicing and maintenance. With over 10,000 turbines operating worldwide, GE Wind Energy is responsible for producing over 13,000 MW of renewable energy.

During the past three decades, there has been a rapid growth in the use of wind turbines for electric power generation. Although many small wind turbines in the kW range were in use during the first half of the twentieth century, they were primarily used to provide power to farms in rural regions of Europe and the United States.
